Hiroyuki Yamamoto

Hiroyuki Yamamoto was born in 1967 in Yamagata, Japan. He graduated from the Composition
Department of Tokyo University of Arts in 1990, where he studied composition with Jo
Kondo and Isao Matsusita. He has won several competitions including the third prize
of the 58th Japan Music Competition in 1989, the competition by Musica Practica on the
occasion of its 10th anniversary in 1991, and the prize of the 13th competition of the
Japanse Society of Contemporary Music in 1996. He was also invited to Forum 91 in 1991
that was held by the Université de Montréal. He is a member of the composers' group
"Tempus Novum" and a director of "Ensemble d'Ame" in Tokyo.

Canticum Tremulum

All sounds in Canticum Tremulum are played with ambiguous articulations, like messa di
voce, rapid arpeggio, using many kind of mutes, etc. This is because I believe that nobody
can realize really "clear" or "straight" sounds like notes clearly written in scores. The most
important thing for me was turning my eyes to hidden articulations on the music score, for
example what is happening in just the beginning of the sound or at the real extinguishing
moment of the resonance… nobody can point them out.
